We are grateful to Fred and Val Eberle for the generous gift of a Moravian Star, now installed in our sanctuary. The Moravian Star has its origins in the Moravian Church of Herrnhut, Germany, where it first appeared in the 19th century as a symbol used in Advent and Christmas worship. With its many points radiating outward, the star represents the Star of Bethlehem that guided the Wise Men to the Christ child. It also serves as a visual reminder of Christ as the Light of the World, shining into darkness. Over time, the Moravian Star has become a cherished symbol throughout Lutheran and Moravian traditions, especially in early American congregations. Its geometry reflects both craftsmanship and faith, uniting beauty with meaning. Placed within our historic sanctuary, the star connects our 1740 congregation to centuries of shared Christian heritage. May it inspire reflection, hope, and joy during the seasons of Advent and Christmas and throughout the year.
